Energetic Ceremony, Messengers of Light, and the Power of Intention
Mattie Rhodes Gallery
Last winter I was invited to play a role in Lacey Wozny's exhibit entitled, “An Evening of Warming” at Grand Arts. The evening was composed of a series of full sensory immediate experiences where the patrons had a direct relationship with a number of performers and servers. This exhibit is a response to my dear friend and collaborator, and I am honored to be a part of her life-- so I begin this statement with a big thank you to Miss Wozny for her energy, love, and inspiring engagement.
Themes of community, present nature, and temporality in the narrative format have been reoccurring themes in my body of work. In this exhibition I wanted to create a series of experiences that revolved around energetic exchange and communion. The portraits are all of individuals in my life who have created a substantial impact on my understanding of order. Individually they have helped me remove patterns that have kept me from a progression toward the infinite, and for that I am eternally grateful.
In response to their inspiration--the intention of creating these portraits is to capture the energetic exchange that I have received (and that they have given) in a linear translation through an intuitive drawing practice. The evening is filled with immediate experiences with various performers that engage all of the senses. My hope is that the viewer will leave recharged, nourished, and engaged to propel, perpetuate and spiral outward the energy received.
